'Hard Rain: A Theatrical Protest' offered a workshop view of six new dramatic renderings of the American experience in this time of political turbulence. Commissioned and curated by John Blondell, this festival included short works inspired by the recent election. These early drafts functioned well as “think” pieces, and represent raw, immediate reactions to the cultures clashes lately highlighted by the presidential election.

Elements Theatre Collective Presents: 'In a Word' Since the disappearance of her son two years ago, Fiona has created a narrative of her version of events born from grief, regret, and the guilt of unspoken relief of being freed from the burden of a special needs child she was not equipped to handle. In 'We Want the Funk: A Rustbelt Lullaby on the One,' charismatic Chuck resolves to trust in the notion that economic depression and cultural oppression can be overcome by creating music. Chuck can't play an instrument, but he devotes his energy to forming a funk band to connect his community to their grander calling. That calling might be a literal ticket out of the slums if their band hits it big across the nation; but Chuck, who Goodwin describes as a 'ghetto spiritual leader,' is more interested in the transcendent aspect of music.

Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson investigate the mysterious death of Sir Charles Baskerville. Though he seems to have died of natural causes, the locals believe he was the victim of the Baskerville curse, in which members of the family are hunted down by the dreaded hellhound who wanders the moors.

The Theatre Group at SBCC will continue the 70th anniversary season with Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes Mystery, THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES, October 14-31, 2015.

Dark themes mercilessly played through incredibly sympathetic characters makes for an unapologetic and ambitious play that forces the audience to consider meaning, whether on a personal or universal level.

'Dead Man's Cell Phone' is a play in which time is twisted, existence is questionable, and relationships are forged through the connective tissue of technology.
